James H. Lee letters, 1862-1864.

The collection consists of 39 letters written primarily by James H. Lee to his wife, Joanne A. Lee and other family members from January 20, 1862 and July 27, 1864. They were written from Confederate military camps in Mobile and Montgomery, Alabama; Pensacola, Florida; Dalton and Augusta, Georgia; Charlotte, North Carolina; Columbia, South Carolina; Chattanooga, Cumberland Gap, and Strawberry Plains, Tennessee; and Coffins Farm and Petersburg, Virginia.

James H. Lee, Confederate soldier, lived in the Eutaw, Greene County, Alabama, area before his enlistment. He served as a private with the 43rd Alabama Infantry but saw little fighting until 1864, when the regiment went to Petersburg, Virginia.
